The Dubai Mall is the largest mall in the world by total area (over 5,400,000 sq. ft.) and is equivalent in size to more than fifty football fields. In 2011, it was the most visited building on the planet, attracting well over 54 million visitors. It also has the world’s largest sweet shop inside, "Candylicious", which is over 10,000 sq. ft. in size.
The mall also includes an Olympic Sized Ice Rink multipurpose venue which can hold up to 2,000 guests and an indoor theme park named ‘SEGA Republic’ which opened in August 2009 and features 15 rides and amusement games. There is also an Aquarium and an Underwater Zoo inside the mall. The Aquarium and Underwater Zoo was designed by Peddle Thorp and houses more than three hundred species of marine life including sharks and rays
