The most popular graduate employers in the UAE

GulfTalent recently completed a survey of over 300 recent graduates and final-year students at the American University of Sharjah, and found the twenty most popular employers for graduates in UAE.

 

1: Emirates Group

Emirates Group is a Dubai-based international aviation holding company based near Dubai International Airport. It comprises Dnata, a services company providing ground handling services at 17 airports, and Emirates Airline, the largest airline in the Middle East. Emirates Group has a turnover of US$18.4 billion and employs over 62,000 employees across 50 business units, making it one of the biggest employers in the Middle East. The company is owned by the Government of Dubai.

 

2: Unilever

Unilever is the head of many brands from around the world, including Lipton, Dove, Hellmann’s, Wall’s and Flora. It is the world’s third-largest consumer goods company by its 2012 revenue, and the world’s largest producer of food spreads such as margarine. Its products are available in 190 countries.

 

3: Chalhoub Group

Chalhoub Group is the leasing partner for luxury brands across the Middle East. It was founded in 1955 and specialises in retail, distribution and marketing and has become a major business in the beauty, fashion and gift sectors. Over 12,000 people work for Chalhoub Group, across 14 counties with a network of over 650 retail stores.

 

4: General Electric

General Electric has been a partner in the Middle East for over 80 years, working with governments and customers to build capacities, train talent, provide technology and create innovative solutions. In 2012, General Electric had a total revenue of US$9.1 billion. It has over 4,200 employees and has invested US$1 billion in Saudi Arabia. The Middle East regional headquarters are in Dubai, UAE, and across the Middle East, it has 30 offices and 35 ground facilities.

 

5: Nestle

Nestle has been in the Middle East since 1934, providing direct employment to over 11,000 people, more than half of which work for Nestle Waters, and operates 18 factories. In 2014, the total sales reached $2.4 billion, and had $400 million of investments. Nestle Middle East’s headquarters are located in the UAE, and currently sells 60 different products in categories such as dairy and infant nutrition, bottled water, chocolate and confectionery, coffee creamers, breakfast cereals, culinary products and pet food.

 

6: Abu Dhabi National Oil Company

ADNOC is a state-owned oil company in the United Arab Emirates. It is the world’s 11th largest oil company by production, with 2.9 million barrels per day and is the UAE’s biggest company. Its headquarters are located in a skyscraper office in Abu Dhabi. The building incorporates energy efficiency by using photovoltaic glazing and LED exterior lighting. It has more than 65 floors, an office tower, crisis management centre and a heritage museum.

 

7: Petrofac

Petrofac is a provider of oilfield services to the international oil and gas industry and has had offices in Sharjah, UAE since 1991, with over 4000 employees. The company offers a graduate programme, with a graduate community of over 700, where students learn about the strategy and vision of Petrofac, as well as how the company runs. Students are trained by the company so they can continue their career there after the graduate programme has finished.

 

8: PwC

PwC is a multinational professional services network and has been in the Middle East for over 40 years. It employs over 4,000 people in 12 countries, including Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. It is the second largest professional services firm in the world, and was ranked as the most prestigious accounting firm in the world for seven years in a row by Vault Accounting 50.

 

9: Procter & Gamble (P&G)

P&G is multinational consumer goods company founded in 1837 by William Procter and James Gamble. Its products include cleaning agents and personal care products. In 2014, P&G recorded $83.1 billion in sales and announced it was streamlining the company, dropping 100 brands to focus on the 65 brands that brought in 95% of profits. Its current CEO is David Taylor.

 

10: Etihad Airways

Etihad Airways is the second largest airline of the UAE. Its headquarters are in Khalifa City, Abu Dhabi, near Abu Dhabi international airport. The airline operates more than 1000 flights a week to over 120 destinations in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia and the Americas, with a fleet of over 122 aircrafts as of July 2016. Etihad carried 14.8 million passengers in 2015, delivering a revenue of $7.6 billion.

 

 

11: Schlumberger

Schlumberger is the world’s largest oilfield services company, and employs around 100,000 people in more than 85 countries. It was founded in 1926 and is a fortune 500 company, ranked 287 in 2016.

 

12: AECOM

AECOM is a multinational engineering firm that provides design, consulting, construction and management series to a wide range of clients. It has around 95,000 employees and is number 156 on the 2016 Fortune 500 list. It was named as the World’s Most Admired Company in 2015 by Fortune, and Engineering News-Record ranked AECOM as Number 1 Global Design Firm. AECOM Middle East offers a graduate programme.

 

13: Emaar Properties

Emaar is a real estate development company located in the United Arab Emirates. It is a public joint-stock company and operates internationally, providing property development and management services. It has a collective presence in 36 markets across the Middle East, North Africa, Pan-Asia, Europe and North America. Emaar is one of the largest real estate developers in the UAE and is known for various large scale projects including Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world.

 

14: Leo Burnett

The Leo Burnett Group specialises in advertising, social media, content and innovation, sales promotion, direct marketing, event management, licensing and luxury branding. It was founded in 1935 by Leo Burnett, and is one of the largest agency networks with 85 offices and 9000 employees. Clients include, Fiat, Samsung, P&G, Kellogg’s, Coca-Cola, McDonalds and Nintendo.

 

15: Middle East Broadcasting Center (MBC) Group

MBC Group is the first private free-to-air satellite broadcasting company in the Arab World. It was launched in London in 1991 and moved its headquarters to Dubai in 2002. It provides multiple channels in information, interaction and entertainment. MBC Group includes 10 television channels.

 

16: Deloitte

Deloitte is a member of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited and is the first Arab professional services firm established in the Middle East region. It was established in 1926 and is among the region’s leading professional services firms, providing audit, tax, consulting and financial advisory series, with 26 offices in 15 countries and more than 3000 partners.

 

17: IBM

IBM is a multinational technology company with operations in over 170 countries. It was founded in 1911 as the Computing-Tabulating-Recording Company, and was renamed IBM in 1924. IBM manufactures and markets computer hardware, middleware and software and offers hosting and consulting services in areas such as mainframe computers and nanotechnology.

 

18: Atkins

Atkins is a multinational engineering, design, architectural design, project management and consulting services company founded in 1938 by Sir William Atkins. It is the world’s largest global design firm, with around 18,000 staff based in 300 offices across 29 countries and has undertaken projects in over 150 countries.

 

19: L’Oréal

 L’Oréal is a French cosmetics company founded in 1909. It is the world’s largest cosmetics copany and has developed products in areas such as hair colour, skin care, sun protection, make-up, perfume and hair care. The company is active in dermatology, toxicology, tissue engineering and biopharmaceutical research.

 

20: Bee’ah is the Middle East’s leading environmental and waste management company. It was founded in 2007 and headquartered in the Emirate of Sharjah. The company won ‘Best Waste Management Company in the Middle East’ by the Facilities Management Awards in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
